On discontent for the world

If you think about it, nobody actually really wants to live in this world. Isn't that why we're all so keen to change the world and make a difference? There's a mutual discontent as to the current state of life on earth and for the most part, we're all sick of it. We're sick of the fighting, the hate, the nonsensical unfairness of it all, and we're especially sick of having one man after another in a nice tie and suit promising to make the world a better place before running it to the ground in his own way. We're all sick and tired and discontent, some of us are just less hopeful, less romantic than another few strands of humanity and so we wish to part the place. It doesn't make us any more tragic than everyone else though, I really don't think it does.

The world is a sad and cruel place to be (sure there are a lot of things that invite smiles and make life worth living, but obviously not nearly enough of them if we're always looking to change everything and 'improve' it) and if history has taught us anything it's that the world will continue to be a sad and cruel place. Perhaps the way it is sad or cruel may change over time, perhaps we'll define the words very differently fifty years from now but it still will be sad and cruel. I'm not saying it's a foolish romantic gesture to try and change the world for the better, I'm not about to stop anyone from pursuing their distinct version of happiness, if the attempt provides for a better experience for you then by all means, please do it. What I think I'm saying is that it shouldn't be viewed as a negative thing to feel life and the world in general is horrible because deep down I think that's how everybody feels, and that if you are intent on making a difference, do it for your own internal benefit because you probably won't accomplish much else.
