Pale Blue Dot

That's here. That's home. That's us.

The universe is just plain awesome, when I was a kid it used to just fascinate me and I would constantly dream about being an astronaut. Then I grew up and realised we didn't have an aeronautics program and I sucked so bad at physics that the idea of my becoming an astronomer of any kind just seemed like a menace to society, so it all went back to just sitting by my bedroom window, looking at whatever stars were visible that night. Sometimes I still dream about it, drifting in infinite space where all the problems we see today look so unimportant. And they are unimportant given the scale of infinity, but it's different for us because it affects us so immediately and directly. It's amazing how people like Sagan can keep their perspectives en point.

For the time being I'll go back to focusing on my exams, no matter how futile everything is starting to look right now. And you can go back to enjoying the video animated by Joel Somerfield as Carl Sagan narrates his famous "Pale Blue Dot"
