V for Vigilante

Gray Area: Hunting

When law isn't respected, go by the gun. Is this a message of approval towards vigilante justice? I don't know, when a tree falls and nobody's there to witness it does it make a sound?

It's possible that I've been following Dexter way too religiously over the past few weeks, or maybe I just get really late epiphanies to which I say 'it's about damn time!' but vigilante justice is not ok (I know right). There are definitely times when we all feel that the system is letting us down when it comes to law enforcement -with the bureaucracy and what not- and if we were to fix the problem ourselves, it might just get things done quicker but that certainly does not justify things, at least in my opinion. If we wish to maintain social order, there should be one body, and one alone, to regulate rules and take actions if those rules are broken.

Especially when it comes to things that are so morally sensitive *cough*porn bill *cough* something that you think is ok may not be for others and that might lead to conflict if we allow vigilantes to take action. Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum, what might be right for you, may not be right for some. And we haven't even considered the possibility that your judgment is completely wrong. What if you ended up unfairly punishing a person for something he didn't even do? It's for this reason that we have trials, so the accused have a chance to bring his side of the story or else we'd have a lot more women being burnt at the stake. Plus, even if you were right about the crime, who's to say that your punishment is fair? People in the olden times (and maybe even today) used to cut the hands of thieves so they can't do the same crime again but that's not fair because if they were a kleptomaniac and only stole a mango and they have to end up disabled when they used to be a skilled carpenter then we may as well have just costed them their lives! Life>Mango (just in case you have troubles following).

But I am worried that illegal (or legal as a matter of fact) hunting still exists, will someone save these endangered species? For God's sakes, they're not even armed! Although, if it's superman or batman being all vigilante then I sure as hell approve :) It's not double standards when they have awesome capes and symbols on their chests.

Also, SAVE THE RAINFORESTS!
